CFO Niti

Just completed reading this amazing compilation of the life journey of 6 CFOs - Maruti Suzuki, Tata Steel, Amazon India, L&T, Hindustan Unilever, and Aditya Birla Group Why this is a must read for every finance student/ working professional is that it allows you to take a sneak peek into what goes into the making of a CFO, their personal and professional journeys. I have seen two of them from close corners and hitherto, knew so little about them. There was so much curiosity that got quenched through this book. 5 of the 6 CFOs covered here are CAs -drives home the point that CA has always and continues to be a powerful degree, especially for the CFO path Life is also a lot of serendipidity. One of them wanted to become a doctor and ended up later opting for CA, one was a super talented cricketer and eventually changed tracks Their clarity of thought was something I got inspired by at a personal level by how they took on challenges head-on, instead of getting bogged down by the...

I opted for Science stream in Class 11. Just because aspiring for IIT was a cult thing and CA seemed a bit cliched as an option. Everyone around was doing CA and I wanted to be different, Such an immature thought ( career choice must be in sync with your natural inclinations and not just what is hot in the market) In 2 years, I realised that this wasnt what I wanted to do. The teachers would explain   the circular motion of a fan — v=rω ( r times omega)and I would wonder what is the costing of the fan :) The d/dx and the subsequent Integrations to draft equations made little sense to my small brain. The lack of coaching alternatives like FIITJEE in our place, way back in 2001–2003 was all the more an issue. Was left with heaps of books like H C Verma and Irodovs but no mentor. Went to school — and the focus was on English Literature, Hindi Grammar, Moral Science, SUPW — everything that was part of traditional schooling to make you score high in ISC Boards — of course they we...

Are there any benefits of doing CFA after CA

Image
Are there any benefits of doing CFA after CA A lot of CAs spend their first salary on registering for CFA. This is because they might feel disenchanted by a role in Accounts, Audit and Taxation and want a sneek peak into the world of Investment Banking, Private Equity, Venture Capital, Equity Research Fund fund. Someone who lands up in a role in Product Control with a Goldman Sachs or Barclays feels that CFA will facilitate their shift to the desired field But in India, can CFA be the primary driver of your career moves , or will it more driven by an MBA or Networking or smart career moves such as starting with a boutique firm and then moving into the storied ones So, whats the point of continuing in Audit in an EY if you have completed L3 of CFA. Dont go by Attribution error - successful analysts have CFA - may not be right to infer that CFA led them to that role Do the CFA for knowledge, for value addition - not just for the sake of double degrees. Take your decision wisely
